Title: PDP, LP trade words over Ogun 2015 elections
Post by: Punch on Jul 10, 2013, 02:01 AM
The Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party in Ogun State on Tuesday disagreed over their chances in the 2015 elections in the state.

While the Ogun State chapter of the PDP said the LP, which is the emerging party in the state, posed no threat to its ambition to return to the Ogun Government House in 2015, the LP described the PDP as a party that was "already dead."

The South-West Zonal Secretary of the PDP, Chief Pegba Otemolu, while speaking during the meeting of members in Remo Federal Constituency, Remo North Local Government in Ikenne, said the emergence of the LP in the state was a "fitful breeze", which would have no effect on the state's political terrain.

Other PDP chiefs at the meeting included the Senatorial Chairman, Chief Doyin Fakoya; Chief Adetunji Adesola, former commissioner for environment in the state, Dr. Adeleke Adedoyin, and party chairmen in Ikenne,Remo North and Sagamu local government areas.

Otemolu urged the LP not to be deceived by the ongoing "noise" about its emergence in the state, which he argued would eventually turn out to be "a flash in the pan."

He stated the PDP in Ogun was reorganising its house to make the party stronger and be able to confront the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, with a view to displacing the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in the 2015 poll.

The South-West PDP zonal secretary added that some party members in the state, who initially defected to the LP and the ACN had since retraced their steps and returned.

But the State Secretary of the LP in Ogun, Mr. Sunday Oginni, said his party was set to upstage the PDP in the state having depopulated its fold in recent times.

Oginni told our correspondent that the PDP leaders in Ogun seemed to have lost touch with the current political reality in the state.

"You know that in Ogun State today, PDP is already dead. What it is awaiting now is only embalment. They know that they are already in the mortuary," he said.
