[attachimg=1 align=left] The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and Alaba Traders have partnered to tackle substandard goods in the country.
The collaboration is in SON's quest to be more efficient and effective in the discharge of its duties to Nigerians, particularly in combating the scourge of importation of substandard and unwholesome goods.
The agency's Director General, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, explained that there is a need for effective collaboration to tackle the menace of substandard products.
Odumodu, who asserted this during a stakeholders' meeting with Alaba traders, said that the situation is not desirable, saying that it has to stop before it puts the nation to total jeopardy. We do not know how many people that are dying as a result of these substandard products. Our target is that by the end of May, every substandard product in the country must disappear, he said.
We must all sit together to work out ways to challenge this situation headlong," he added, and stated that SON has a new agenda in place, which he called a zero tolerance strategy for substandard products.
