Toyota said its new 2012 Prius V will arrive in the U.S. this fall, targeting "young families with active lifestyles." The U.S. launch was pushed back from its original late-summer date following Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The Japan and European versions of the Prius V will get a new lithium-ion battery pack, while the U.S. edition will make do with an older-style nickel-metal hydride battery pack.
