Title: Shell Shuts In 24 Inch Crude Pipeline
Post by: Shola Sholaz on Jul 11, 2013, 11:12 PM
Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd, SPDC, said it has shut in the 24-inch Trans Niger Pipeline, TNP as a result of a leak discovered at the Bomu- Bonny section of the line at Owokiri.
.
In a statement Thursday, Shell said: "With the 28-inch TNP already shut in for removal of illegal oil theft connections, a total of about 150,000 barrels per day of oil have been deferred."
.
Shell however admitted that "Details of this latest incident including cause and size of spillare unclear at the moment, but the TNP has been variously targeted by crude oil thieves in recent months and shut down several times to enable the removal of theft points."
.
It added that the relevant authorities have been notified of the incident, while also mobilising to respond as quickly as possible with a joint investigation visit, JIV, and repairs, preparatory to clean up.
