The Action Congress of Nigeria said on Thursday that it had not suspended the lawmaker representing Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abiodun Akinlade.
ACN Chairman in Yewa South Local Government, Yaya Idowu, in a statement on Wednesday, said, "It is illogical to say that the only financial member of the party, who flies the flag of the party higher than any other mortal, will be suspended by anybody."
Yaya also said if any suspension would be effected in the party at "the level of the local government, I should not only be aware but I should also communicate same to the state executives, which I have not done."
A faction of the ACN in Owode Ward 1 had suspended Akinlade, who is a third-term member of the House and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology for allegedly fraternising with the emerging Labour Party in the state.
It was learnt that the lawmaker is interested in running for the governorship in the state on the platform of the LP in the 2015 election.
The ACN faction had also accused the lawmaker of instructing his supporters to move en masse to the rival LP in the state.
The executive members of the ACN in Owode Ward 1, where Akinlade hails from, however said in a letter of suspension dated July 4, 2013, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta that they jointly took the decision to move against the lawmaker.
A copy of the letter of suspension conveying the lawmaker's suspension, which was addressed to the ACN Chairman in the state, Ola Bello, was signed by the party's ward Vice Chairman, Dauda Afolayan, and Secretary, Idowu Azeez, as well as 21 other members.
The Punch
Well if it's a denial or it's actually true we'll get to know very soon when the truth is revealed to the whole of Nigeria.
