Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam has called on the military High Command to ensure the restoration of telecommunications service in the state.

Restoration of the service, the governor said, would enable the citizens to pass relevant information to security operatives in view of the security challenges in the state.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen Chris Olukolade, conveyed the governor's demand in a statement on Thursday.

Geidam was said to have made the appeal while receiving the Defence Headquarters Fact-Finding Team led by the Chief of Research and Development, Maj.-Gen ObinaliĀ  Ariahu.

The governor also urged the security operatives to give priority to locations in the state that were prone to terrorists attack.

He noted that the terrorists, who attacked the Government Secondary School, Mamudo, and killed a teacher and 29 pupils, took advantage of the islolated location of the institution to carry out the massacre.

The statement read, "The governor said such places would require extraordinary protection. He therefore called for appropriate strategies to tackle the peculiar reality of the security challenges in such localities.

"He requested the military authorities to reconsider the issue of outage of GSM telephones as it would help in passing information to the security agencies, especially in the light of the current realities of the security situation."

Meanwhile, the DHQ, has approved the restoration of GSM services in Adamawa State.

An unsigned statement from the office of the Director of Defence Information, said the restoration of the services followed a reaction to a positive evaluation of the security situation in the state.

It was stated that GSM services would be restored in Yobe and Adamawa statesĀ  as soon as the security situation became appropriate for the ban to be lifted.
