Title: Ibe Arrives With A Bang
Post by: Folami David on Jul 14, 2013, 01:56 PM
Nigerian-born striker, Jordon Ibe scored his first senior goal for Liverpool on Saturday as the Reds thrashed Preston North End 4-0 at Deepdale.
.
The 17-year-old, who made his senior Liverpool debut on May 19 against Queens Park Rangers in the 1-0 Premier League win at Loftus Road, is highly regarded by the Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers.
.
He provided the assist at Loftus Road as Phillipe Coutinho scored the only goal of the game.
.
The young forward has now shown that his fine display last season was not a fluke as he scored a brilliant goal as Liverpool continued their pre-season with an easy win against Preston on Saturday.
.
After the win, he took the time to discuss his performance and rather strange celebration of his debut strike with Liverpool television.
.
"I felt really good especially scoring against Preston and playing with the first team. I enjoyed it a lot," Ibe said, clearly overcome with emotion.
.
Ibe covered his face with his hands immediately after scoring and he explained the rather unconventional celebration.
.
"I didn't have any celebration so I just put my hands in front of my face. I was just so relieved and looked at Brendan (Rodgers) because I've always wanted to score in important matches especially playing with the first team.
.
"So when (the ball) went over the line, I just felt so happy," he said.
.
The forward subsequently took to Twitter share his joy with his 43,591 followers via @IbeJordon.
.
"Great game today, lovely support from all lfc fans, and also thank you for all the comments. #LFC," he tweeted.
.
Born in. Bermondsey, South London, Ibe signed as a 12-year-old for the Wycombe Wanderers youth system, after his release from the Charlton Athletic youth system.
.
On December 20, 2011, he joined Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
.
He has represented England at under-18 level but is eligible to play for Nigeria at senior international level.
.
Up next for Ibe and the rest of the Liverpool side is a summer tour of Jakarta, Melbourne and Bangkok, to pay a visit to the many thousands of passionate Reds fans who follow the club from afar.
