Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, at the weekend immortalised former governor of the defunct Western Region and late Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, with the flagging off of a N14.5 billion East Bypass in Osogbo, named after him.
Speaking at the kick-off of the construction of the 18-kilometre road, Aregbesola said the East Bypass would be constructed to meet standard in modern road construction.
He added that it would be constructed with two asphaltic surface layers and 40mm binder with 30mm wearing.
The governor urged the construction company handling the project to stick to the agreed completion date and adhere strictly to the specified standard in the construction of the road and bridges.
Aregabesola added that the major preoccupation of his administration was to improve socio-economic, infrastructural development and the well-being of the people.
He said: "This is why in the last two and a half years government has devoted attention to the modernisation of road infrastructure."
The governor said road infrastructure was a crucial element of developmental efforts of his administration to take the state to an enviable height.
The road, according to him, can be referred to as circumferential highway starting from the roundabout on Iwo Road and passes through Ofatedo to Ataoja Grammar School, through Ilesa Road and terminates at Osogbo Stadium roundabout area.
The project will feature construction of new culverts, three bridges, concrete side drainage and retaining walls, pavement surface and marking, construction of railway underpass, construction of interchange and provision of street light.
Aregbesola said bad roads had been the bane of developmental efforts in the country which, according to him, also explains why the roads in the state have suffered years of neglect under the previous administrations.
