As part of the five-point agenda of the present administration in providing adequate health facilities for the people of Ogun State, the Ministry of Budget and Planning in conjunction with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) programmes has handed five ambulances to three Local Governments in the State.
The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mrs. Oluwande Muoyo, while handing over the vehicles to the concern Local Governments said, the MDGs Programme has two components comprising of the State and Local Government Programmes She noted that the Local Government Programme was geared towards enhancing health needs of the people by providing ambulances and drugs for the use of the people at the council areas.
Distributing the vehicles, the commissioner said that two of the ambulances would be given to Ikenne Local Government which would be placed at Ikenne and Ilisan while Odeda would have one, to be placed at Obantoko and two to Yewa North, to be placed at Ibile Aiyetoro and Oja Odan. The Commissioner advised the officials from the three Local Government Councils to put the ambulances to good use through emergency assistance to accident victims and others who might need emergency services.
In a remark, the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, represented by the coordinator, Ogun State Ambulances Services, Dr. Hassan Adelakun buttressed the fact that the target for which the ambulances were provided was to ensure that officials get to accident points in a jiffy. Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hon. Rotimi Akinsanya from Ikenne Local Government Council thanked the State Government for the procurement of the ambulances, promising that the Local Government would make judicious use of the ambulances in line with the spirit behind their purchase.
