Title: Reps Jettison Constitution Review Report
Post by: Shola Sholaz on Jul 17, 2013, 01:23 PM
THE House of Representatives, yesterday, jettisoned consideration of the constitution amendment report submitted to it on July 4 by the ad- hoc committee on the review due to poor circulation of the report to some members to read before deliberations.
.
The report, which was listed on the Order Paper for clause-by-clause consideration, could not be considered by the lawmakers and the House had to suspend its relevant rules to allow the Speaker chair the committee.
.
Suddenly the process was stalled as most members were said to have got the report yesterday morning, without going through it thoroughly.
.
This was after Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, who is the chairman of the House ad-hoc committee, had given the synopsis of the report.
.
The speaker had told his colleagues that there would be no debate on the report, but that members would be allowed to make comments, reactions and observations on any clause that they deemed necessary.
