New acquisition Thiago Alcantara trained for the first time with treble winners Bayern Munich on Wednesday, including some joking with Thomas Mueller and praise from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Some 2,000 fans came out to the training grounds at Saebener Strasse in Munich to welcome Thiago, who arrived at Bayern for €25 million from Barcelona and trained for about 95 minutes.

The Bayern website said the 22-year-old Spanish- Brazilian joked around with Mueller while Schweinsteiger said of the new acquisition: "He is a very, very gifted footballer who has everything it takes to become a major great."

Schweinsteiger, who himself was returning to the training grounds for the first time since undergoing heel surgery six weeks ago, added: "We still have to integrate (Thiago), but I think that will go quickly."
