The contract for the rehabilitation and construction was awarded by the Federal government to Messrs Julius Berger and RCC Construction companies. The President was received on arrival by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.   A cultural display was held in honour of the President by the Ogun State Cultural Troupe before the flag off.   The President in his address noted that over 250,000 vehicles ply the road daily, thus making it one of the busiest in Africa.  The road connects many businesses and serves as a major link for movement of people and goods in Africa. He lamented the failure of Bi-Courtney to execute the contract as was agreed.  This, he said, forced the Government to terminate Bi-Courtney's contract and re-awarded it to Messrs Julius Berger and RCC construction companies.  He appealed to the road users to bear with the contractors for any inconveniences they may encounter during the period of reconstruction.   He promised the State Government of the Federal Government's intervention and cooperation in the rehabilitation of not only that road, but others also of tremendous value to the citizens.
