Building material  traders  on  Williams, Nwokedi and Venn  streets in  Onitsha have slammed a  N3.5bn suit against the Anambra State Government for closing down their business premises.

The traders,  in the suit filed by their counsel, Dr. Ositadinma Nnadi (SAN),   at the Onitsha Division of the Anambra High Court, want  an order  declaring  that  the action by the government  was illegal.

They are also praying the court to perpetually restrain the government from further interfering with their business in the said streets.

The traders  want the N3.5bn as special and general damages for the losses they and their businesses had  suffered during the period of the closure.

They also  prayed  the court to order that the policemen stationed at the premises   be withdrawn immediately to enable them  to continue with their business.

The suit was brought on behalf of the traders by Igwe Robert Nwankwo, Mr. James Oranye, Chief G.E. Onyeiwu, Chief Chukwuma Umeh, Mr. Aaron Ozugbo, Mr. Ifeanyi Nnaso, Mr. Okechukwu Ebosie, Mr. Wilfred Chukwuma and Mr. Peter Nwokedi.
