Title: FIFA abolishes extra-time for U-17 World Cups

FIFA Executive Committee has abolished extra-time for the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup with immediate effect.

Japan was confirmed as host the FIFA Club World Cup 2011.

The committee chaired by the world football governing body President Sepp Blatter said on Monday they took the decision after a proposal was made by the Medical Committee and the FIFA Task Force Football 2014.

Among the recommendations offered up by the FIFA Task Force on May 11 was for extra-time to be abolished in U17 tournaments, with games that are level after 90 minutes going straight to penalties, and for a fourth substitution to be allowed in extra-time at other events.

Most significantly, the panel suggested that the 'triple punishment' of a red card and a suspension following the award of a penalty be scrapped.

Instead, a yellow card will be issued, unless the offence in question is deemed to constitute serious foul play or denied a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity, in which case a red card will still stand.

The committee approved the Gender Verification Regulations in order to have more clearly defined and legally binding regulations on this topic.
