The face-off between the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso and Abuja has been traced to surreptitious attempts by some influential forces in corridors of power to stop the governor from contesting the 2011 gubernatorial election even after winning the primary, Vanguard has learnt.
.
Kwankwaso, who is said to have transformed Kano and built a large network of followers in the last six years of his stewardship, was among the five PDP governors, who voiced concerns over what they termed 'the leadership style of the Peoples Democratic Party', which was the platform on which they contested election and won.
.
On Monday, the five governors took their grievances to former military rulers-Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar in Minna and asked them to intervene in the crisis currently rocking the party.
.
They had earlier in the week met with ex President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Rotimi Amaechi apparently 2 give him some moral support over his political travails.
