Post by: Punch on Jul 27, 2013, 09:31 AM
There was pandemonium at Soka area of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on Friday when a cement laden truck lost control and plunged into a ditch.

An eyewitness, James Japhet, said residents of the area were thrown into confusion as a result of the sound of the crash.

The driver of the Mack truck marked BENUE XA 301 GBG, belonging to Dangote Group, and a passenger were trapped in the vehicle. It took close to three hours before the victims could be rescued from the wreckage.

Japhet, who was part of the rescue team, said, "We heard the victims cry for help after the truck skidded off into the ditch about 7 am.

"The vehicle, which was on its way to Ibadan, was on high speed. The driver lost control while trying to avoid a pothole."

The Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, Oluyole Unit 1, Mr. Francis Ajata, said the spot of the crash was a death-trap.

Ajata, who confirmed that no death was recorded in the accident said, "There were many instances when drivers would lose control at the spot. It is one of the accident-prone areas under the command, where crashes usually occur."
