He had an x-ray and was subsequently identified as an injury doubt for future games by the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew but such fears have now been effectively dispelled.

Blackpool failed to deal with a right-wing corner and Ameobi headed on to Mike Williamson who promptly headed back to the big Nigerian striker.

Ameobi then swivelled acrobatically and smacked home a stunning volley past the Blackpool keeper for the Toon Army in the fifth minute.

Ameobi has now scored three goals in as many pre- season friendly games for Newcastle United.

This will come as welcome news to Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi who named Ameobi as one of the Nigeria strikers to face South Africa's Bafana Bafana at the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Durban on August 14.

However, the news of Ameobi's good form has again been dampened by yet another injury blow suffered by the striker.
