The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has said that the House of Representatives resolution to remove immunity for the president and state governors on criminal matters can lead to breakdown of law and order.
.
The National Secretary of the party, Mr Gilbert Agbo, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
.
He said that House of Representative should rather state where the immunity clause would not be applicable before removal.
.
"The removal of this immunity clause would make anyone to challenge the governors or the president at point or the order.
.
"It could pull a government down; otherwise if you look at the level of corruption in the society, there is no reason why one would not want the immunity clause removed.
.
"What the House of Representative should have done is to down tone the process, there will be specific issues where a sitting president or governors can be drag to court,'' Agbo said.
