The Lagos State judiciary has sworn in 29 new customary court judges, bringing their number in the state to 203.
Swearing in the judges on Tuesday, the state Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Philips, urged them to be honest and not to abuse their positions.
She said, "You must be honest. You must not use your positions for self-aggradisement, to intimidate or harass others or to enrich yourselves unjustly.
"Remember that you are the first contact to the grassroots. You are servants of the people and you must discharge your duties like the servants of the people.
"You must adjudicate the matters brought before you based on the facts and not on gossip. You should always remember that you will return to the society after retirement."
The Executive Secretary of the State Judicial Service Commission, Mrs. Ayodele Odugbesan, said the inauguration of the judges was in accordance with Section 13 of the Customary Court Law 2011.
