Following yesterday's registration of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the party's leadership have commenced grassroots mobilisation in Enugu State.
APC stalwarts who promptly reacted to the registration of the party told National Mirror that their dream has come true and described the registration as God's doing.
One of the party leaders in the state who until yesterday belonged to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Adolphus Ude, said with the registration of APC by INEC, they have now moved to the grassroots to take the message of change down to the people.
Mr. Peter Okonkwo, who also belonged to one of the factions of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, said that the merging parties are now vindicated, adding that INEC has now insulated itself from undue pressure from certain quarters by upholding the rule of law as an independent body.
"It's a triumph for democracy in Nigeria," Okonkwo said. In his reaction, Mr. Osita Okechukwu of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, described the registration of APC as the death of one party state in Nigeria which he said has taken the country's democracy to the next level.
Okechukwu said: "Nigerians now have a golden opportunity to make a choice between two dominant political parties; one anchored on social democracy, pro-people and one anchored on conservative and anti-people programmes as is the case in all liberal democracies."
