Enugu State Forum of Chairmen of All Progressives Congress has said the registration of the party would bring sanity to the nation's polity.

Speaking to our correspondent after a meeting in Enugu, on Wednesday, its members said the era of impunity and the lack of internal democracy in the country was over.

At the meeting were Mr. Edwin Alor (faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance); Mr. Bartho Udeaba (All Nigeria Peoples Party); Elder Anike Nwoga (Congress for Progressive Change); Mr. Sampson Eze, (Democratic Peoples Party); and Mr. Emeka Udeh of the Action Congress of Nigeria.

They believed that the entrance of the APC into the nation's polity at this time would usher in a new lease of political and economic relief for Nigerians.

In a five-point communique, read by Alor, the chairmen stated, "We note the recent Court pronouncement that the Independent National Electoral Commission lacks the power to deregister political parties.

"We however use this opportunity to call on other political parties that could not boast of 500,000 members spread across the nation, to join the APC so as to strengthen the formidable platform and stop the flagrant acts of impunity by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party."

The three aspirants of the merging parties in Anambra State – Senator Chris Ngige, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo and Mr. Ifeanyi Igwebuike – in their reactions, said they would soon hold a rally in the state to start the movement to take over Anambra State for the APC.

But  the Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Nwafor Okafor, expressed the fears that the registration of APC could create a problem for the party in the November 16 governorship election.

He said, "This merger news is coming at a time the CPC has already made its presence felt in the state and was set to capture it with our candidate."

But the aspirants said the APC would boost, rather than jeopardise, their chances in the November 16 election.
