Title: APGA crisis: Reconciliation is between Umeh and Obi, not all –Maxi Okwu
Post by: Mirror on Aug 03, 2013, 07:31 AM
The Maxi-Okwu-led All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) yesterday said that his group was ready to compromise and sheathe their sword for the sake of APGA winning the forthcoming local government and governorship elections, whenever the Chief Victor Umeh-led group is ready for true reconciliation.

Speaking to Saturday Mirror in an exclusive interview yesterday, Barr. Maxi Okwu said that his group would be part of any reasonable move that would make APGA win Anambra State. He however warned that it would be counterproductive if the Umeh's group decided to ignore other group.

His words: "We are ready for reconciliation and that is why we set up a reconciliation committee on June 10. We also declared three week of truce to allow for peace to prevail. The reconciliation is between Umeh and Obi, it does not carry my APGA along. I concede to those who are participants to the Anambra Monday show but we are not part of it and we cannot be ignored. So, we are moving to enforce our rights.

"We stand on the April 8 national convention, a fact which has been confirmed by High Court and a Court of Appeal. So we can't wish it away. But the interest of the party supercedes that and that is that we must win Anambra State elections. We are ready to compromise but that compromise must be based on honour and respect. That is the minimum condition.

"If the Umeh group reaches out to us for the unity of the party, we can talk. But if they think that they can go to the election alone, that is their business. We are working on to see that right things are done at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the court of the land.

We are prepared to cease fire if we talk. "Anything that is reasonably required for APGA to win Anambra State in forthcoming elections, we shall be part of it but if they decide to ignore us, it will be counterproductive. If they ignore us, it will be at their own peril.

If everybody wishes that the APGA crisis should be resolve totally before the forthcoming Anambra local government and governorship election, there is possibility to do so. We are willing, let other side also shows willingness practically, not by making noise or abusing people."

Meanwhile, Maxi Okwu yesterday also wrote INEC, demanding for a certified true copies (CTC) of some party related documents in INEC's custody. The statement reads in part: "We have on numerous occasions over the past few months had cause to write you on matters relating to our party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

We had also, relying on the clear provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, applied severally for certified true copies (CTC) of some party related documents in your custody. With due respects the Commission cannot say that I have not been on its records since 2002..."
