Gombe United coach, Maurice Cooreman was full of praise for his relatively inexperienced attack, following their 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars in the premier league on Sunday.
.
Babangida Ibrahim scored a brace in the 69th and 90th minutes to secure victory for the Savannah Scorpions, but that was only after the former Yarma Light Academy duo of Sani Mohammed and Aliyu Bilyaminu had been introduced to the game after a goalless first half.
.
Following the recent departure of some key players led by leading scorer Bishop Onyeudo, Cooreman has been forced to throw in some young players at the deep end, and he admitted he was impressed with their contributions in the defeat of the Akure Gunners.
.
"I'm happy our younger players rose to the occasion, because it was a difficult game. Sunshine Stars lived up to the billing as one of the top teams around," he told supersport.com.
.
"We didn't play too well in the first half, but we recovered in the second half after we made some changes to boost our attack.
.
"Babangida (Ibrahim), who has stepped into Bishop's shoes, scored both goals and has now scored four goals in the league.
.
"Sani (Mohammed) and Aliyu (Bilyaminu) both contributed to the goals and our overall play after coming on as substitutes. I'm proud of their performance.
.
"Our younger players showed maturity, and it's good to see the team coming together not too long after we lost some of our senior players.
.
"We will continue to do our best to win at home, and hope for the best when we travel.
.
"I believe we could get some good results on the road before the end of the season, but I'm not promising anything."
.
Gombe United have moved up to eighth place in the Glo Premier League with 34 points from 23 matches.
To secure a win against Sunshine Stars is definately something to be proud of...The praise makes sense cos they really deserve it!
