Post by: Mirror on Aug 08, 2013, 02:31 PM
As Muslims across the world celebrate Eidel- Fitr, Borno State government has given out food items and textile materials to orphans, widows and the less privileged.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries at the Government House, Maiduguri, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, said though Governor Kashim Shettima was in Saudi Arabia, performing the lesser Hajj, he had shown concern for the welfare of the masses.

Mustapha said the governor directed him to distribute the items which included 5,000 cartons of spaghetti, 5,000 units of wrapper, and 5,000 bags of 1kg rice, to the people.

The deputy governor disclosed that over 5,000 people would benefit from the gesture.

He said the government deemed it necessary to assist the people, especially the less privileged, as enshrined in both the Quran and Hadith.

Mustapha added that it was good to encourage Muslims to assist the needy in society during Sallah so that they would have a happy festivity.

One of the beneficiaries, Hajja Falmata, who spoke to our correspondent, thanked Shettima for the gesture.

Another beneficiary, Mallam Abubakar Bulama, thanked the government called on organisations and the rich to emulate the government's gesture.

Meanwhile, the state government also donated N250,000 to each of the five policemen, and three soldiers who sustained gunshot injuries in the recent Boko Haram attack on Mobile Police Base in Bama, the headquarters of Bama Local Government.

Presenting the money to the victims at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, Mustapha sympathised with them on behalf of the government and people of Borno State.

He said they were injured in the course of defending their country and wished them quick recovery.

The deputy governor promised that the government would continue to support security agencies in the state.

This would definately help the poor and needy in that state so it's a very good initiative from whoever started it.
