The government of Ogun State in South West Nigeria has expressed its readiness to partner with the United States of America in order to boost its economy.
The state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, disclosed this yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, when he received in his office a 4-man delegation of the United States Congress led by the US Consul General in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr Jeffery Hawkins. He said United States could take advantage of Ogun State's vast fertile land, its potential host of deepest seaport in Africa, large mineral deposits such as limestone, gypsum, bitumen, phosphate, kaolin, gem stone, etc, by investing in the state. He said investment in Ogun was bound to yield huge returns because of adequate security, ongoing massive investment in infrastructure, ready made market, its rich human capital, proximity to Lagos as well as long border with the Republic of Benin, which opens it up to international markets in the West Africa sub-region. He specifically expressed the hope that America would invest in agriculture and power in the state. Speaking earlier, the US Consul General, Mr Jeffrey Hawkins, said the US was interested in doing business with the state. He said the confidence in the business climate in Ogun led to the establishment of Procter & Gamble in Agbara, which would commence operation in the next few months.
