A former president of the Ijaw Youth Council and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, on Friday in Abuja said he would not accept the position of Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, citing personal and collective reasons as excuse.
He described the inauguration of the President as the best thing in the nation's political history, adding that it signalled an imminent independence of the Niger Delta region.
According to him, the Presidency should retain the former occupant of the position, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, who, he stressed, remained the best candidate for the office for now.
He said this in a statement which he read to journalists.
He said, "My attention has been drawn to rumours making the round that my name has been recommended for appointment as the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta."
