: iThemba LABS Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Radiation Biology

National Research Foundation in conjunction with iThemba LABS (Laboratory for Accelerator Based Sciences is offering postgraduate fellowships in Medical Directorate:

Minimum requirements:
• PhD in Radiobiology
• Training in Automated Image Analysis Cyto-Genetic applications
• Experience in radiation biology research, specializing in molecular methods, and biomonitoring of radiation workers is essential
• Training in Radiation Protection Principles, familiarity with flow cytometric methods in radiobiology research

Skills & attributes:
• Supervisory skills
• Good communication
• Computer literate (MS Office suite)
• Pro-active and able to work with minimum supervision
• Problem solving abilities and able to work under pressure
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• A willingness to learn and transfer skills
• The ability to develop new molecular and cellular methods

Duties will include but are not limited to:
• Researching radiation biological phenomena using specialised radiation sources on site (neutrons, protons and radionuclides)
• Supervising postgraduates in radiation biology
• Implementing new cellular/molecular methodologies as required in radiobiological research
• Supervising technicians to ensure quality control in bio-monitoring methodologies
• Lecturing at tertiary institutions
• Interacting with international collaborators
