: 2011/2012 Sydney Brenner Fellowships for Post-Doctoral Studies

Academy Of Science of South Africa (ASSAF), the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust,
and The National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (NAS US) are calling for nomination or applications this prestigious Fellowship awarded for post-doctoral studies in the molecular and cellular biosciences to be conducted in South Africa. The Fellowship will be awarded for a two-year period, on a competitive basis, to nationals of any country, for high-level research work in a suitable department, unit or institute of a South African institution that has already agreed to be the host.

Applications may be submitted as nominations by institutions or directly by individuals, and must provide full details of preceding doctoral work and publications; a description of the rationale and methodology of the proposed project (including certified evidence of operational funding, facilities and equipment that will be available over and above the Fellowship award); and the names of at least three contactable referees.

The emphasis in the selection is on the excellence of the academic track record; evidence of unusual creativity and ingenuity in addressing scientific problems; both the novelty AND the feasibility of the proposed approach; and the quality, adequacy and appropriateness of the host environment.

The value of the Fellowship will be up to R 180 000 pa. Reasonable personal travel and moving costs to the host institution will be covered.
