Key Responsibilities:
• To thoroughly examine all machinery, plant & equipment situated within his defined area of examination, for defects. Highlighting deficiencies or wear that could affect the safe operation of machinery, plant & equipment.
• Ensures that his findings are properly broadcast in order to ensure the safe operation of all equipment i.e. with Engineering and Operations as well as the safety of staff.
• Ensures that the results of each examination are logged appropriately, and examinations are well documented to leave a proper trail for audit and reference.
• The examiner has the responsibility to report any operator that he deems not capable of competently operating machinery plant or equipment to the Maintenance Planning Manager
• The examiner has the responsibility and authority to withdraw the certification of any particular machine or piece of equipment he deems to be unsafe or could cause damage i.e. issues Stop Certificates.
• Ensures all safety standards and best engineering practice regulations are adhered to.
• To generate monthly inspections, and compile log sheets to ensure the safety of APMT staff and equipment as required by Code of Practice, Occupational Health & Safety Act, OEM and ensure legality of work done.
• To liaise with the Maintenance Planning Manager, to effectively schedule repairs as and when required. Monitor the Maintenance planning department and Head of Rolling Stock section to see if the defects are being addressed and if necessary issue stop certificates as per Code of Practice.
• Advises Management on the validity of scrapping or refurbishing machinery and equipment, to make suggestions or propose modifications to ensure defects do not reoccur.
• Document and identify unusual or unsafe working areas so that relevant parties can improve working conditions for all maintenance personal.
• Assist, train and guide all Rolling stock staff in best practices regarding maintenance excellence.
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATION:
• Certificate /Diploma as Mechanic / Electrical Engineering.
• Training in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical fields.
• Trained as an examiner or posses specific technical and analytical skills to be trained as an examiner.
• Basic inspection certificates on any of the rolling stock equipment.
EXPERIENCE:
• 3-5 years experience as Mechanic / Quality Controller in any ports, mines, steel and manufacturing plants plus shift working experience.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
• Self motivated
• Analytical and systematic
• Requires knowledge and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, service & parts manuals for various equipments.
• Must be able to troubleshoot / diagnose / identify electrical, mechanical and hydraulic and pneumatic problems, and provide direction for solutions.
• Statutory inspection sheets as per examiners training
• Equipment log sheet procedure.
• Knowledge of Compiling statutory equipment inspections sheets
• Requires to keep work area organized, neat and efficiently planned (5S).
• Requires the ability to learn fast.
• PC Literate.
• First Aid.
