Title: 2015: Don’t destroy Nigeria, cleric warns politicians
Post by: Mirror on Aug 18, 2013, 11:31 AM
President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude, at the weekend frowned at what he described as 'so much acrimony' among politicians in strategising to get themselves into power in 2015.

Omobude who was addressing journalists at the 70th birthday anniversary of Rev. (Dr.) Obiorah Ezekiel of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM) in Lagos, warned politicians to desist from any attempt to destroy the country in their mad pursuit for political power.

"Those who want to destroy Nigeria before 2015, they themselves may not live to see 2015. We must understand that Nigeria belongs to all of us. "I want Nigerians to know that a man cannot receive what God has not given to him. Whosoever heavens has destined will take place," he said.

The PFN president explained that the church in Nigeria was seriously praying and believed in the entity called Nigeria. He said whatever situation the country is going through is a passing phase which she would overcome. Omobude urged Nigerians to forgive and learn to believe in one another, adding that Nigeria has a great future.

"I have said that they should save Nigeria before 2015. There is no point crating tension. Those who will not get there will not get there. We are praying. Some of them will be taken out of the way by heaven if they think it is their birthright and they want to get it by force.

The church will speak into the political situation of this country," Omobude averred. Speaking in the same vein, General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo, described the activities of politicians as an indication of how little governance had developed as far as democracy was concerned. "But if they say democracy is government of the people, by the people, then the people should be their interest, not their position.

"We are still talking of 2015; that is close by and the politicians have abandoned the various promises to the electorate. "For me, it simply means that most of our politicians have not learnt their lessons and the interest of the people is not uppermost in their hearts.

That is really a very bad development as far as we are concerned," he insisted. The bishop explained that if a politician was good, sincere and had spent time to perform, Nigerians would re-elect him. "But today, we have a situation where a group of people want to put all that asunder.

It is a very unfortunate situation," the bishop stressed. Giving the day's message earlier, the PFN president said there was hope for our nation but added that Nigerians must follow the straight path.

He described Rev. Ezekiel, the celebrant,  as a passionate servant of God and a man of integrity. Showering more accolades on the CPM cleric, Bishop Okonkwo said his 70th birthday was a celebration of a life that had been 'sacrificed' for the kingdom of God. "Dr. Ezekiel is a man that committed himself to the gospel when there seemed to be no future in the gospel.

He dedicated, sacrificed and traversed the entire length and breadth of this nation for souls. For me, it is a blessing to be alive and we celebrate him," he said. Speaking to journalists later, the celebrant said he felt elated having attained the platinum age of 70.

"I feel good. If you observe, anybody who is 70, does something. Either they will publish it or they rejoice, that is why I feel good. "In the book of Psalm, the Bible says that the number of a man's age is 70 but if peradventure he is up to 80, that is the grace of God.

Nevertheless, somebody can be 120 or 150 but by the special grace of God. But at least, 70 is the minimum. So, hitting 70 is something to rejoice about," he enthused.
