Diego Costa has the goal form while David Villa has a point to prove as Atletico Madrid take on Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday.

Brazilian Costa, 24, scored two of Atletico goal's in Sunday's 3-1 debut league win at Sevilla and is not looking forward to taking on the likes of Gerard Pique and Dani Alves.

"We wanted to start strongly and this is what we have done. It was great to score the goals but the important thing is the result," Costa said.

"Now we have to start thinking about Barcelona. It will be another difficult game for us."

Costa is forming an interesting partnership with veteran Villa, who wants to show former club Barca they were wrong to let him go to Atletico in July.

Champions Barca will also approach Wednesday's first-leg game against the cup holders in Madrid in good heart, after starting their league programme Sunday with a 7-0 slaughter of hapless Levante.

New coach Gerardo Martino raised eyebrows by not starting with new signing Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba, but afterwards was praised for showing character in his decisions.

Martino has made it clear he will not be relying on a fixed starting line-up, unlike Tito Vilanova last season. This means that Neymar, Iniesta and Alba will probably start Wednesday, with Cristian Tello and Alex Song probably also coming in.

Veteran right-back Dani Alves - who might be rested Wednesday - said after the Levante game that the team had recovered the level of pressing that hade it so formidable during the period 2008-2011.

"We had lost certain things and it is important to get them back again," he said. "Our level of pressing was what made us different from other teams...Now we are getting it back.

"He (Martino) is a coach with personality who always looks out for the good of the team. We will try to assimilate the ideas that he gives us."
David Villa is doing fine right now with whatever state his career is currently in football. I must commend him for that!
