Ahead of the inauguration of the seventh National Assembly, women all over the country on Sunday, took time out after their church services to offer prayers for the election of Honourable Mulikat Adeola-Akande as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
It will be recalled that Honourable Patricia Etteh was elected the first female Speaker in 2007 but was removed based on trumped up corruption charges.
Etteh has since been given a no guilty verdict by the same House that found her guilty four years ago.
Explaining the reasons behind the prayers for the emergence of another woman as the Speaker, wife of the General Overseer, Soaring Eagle Christians' Assembly and Ministries (SECAM), Pastor (Mrs) Dorcas Ikiedemhe said, "we have to pray to God asking that women who are the conscience of the nation should be remembered when positions are shared moreso now that we have the brightest of the chances for one of us to be picked as the Speaker of the seventh House of Representatives."
Speaking further, Pastor Ikiedemhe noted that, " women decided to set aside today(Sunday) to intercede on behalf of Honourable Adeola-Akande so that she would be divinely favoured when the members decide who leads them. Presently, we have a man as the president, vice-president, Senate president and even the Chief Justice of Nigeria, so in the spirit of fairness, equality and the 35 per cent affirmative action which the president and other state governors promised, our brightest star in the House should be supported for the speakership position."
"We know we cannot do it all alone, we believe with the support of the men and the intervention of God we will smile at the end of the day. Don't forget that prayers answer all questions and needs and that is why we have decided to take our request to God to speak into the hearts of the men so that she would have a smooth sail." she declared
