Title: Lobi Stars Blame Defeat On Hard Luck
Post by: Folami David on Aug 19, 2013, 02:06 PM
Lobi Stars coach Evans Ogenyi believes Sharks were fortunate to come away with three points having defeated his side 1-0 in the premier league on Sunday at the Sharks Stadium.
.
Odinga Odinga shot home Tayo Fabiyi's header off a late Yinka Adedeji corner to deny Lobi Stars a crucial point in their battle against the drop.
.
Ogenyi told supersport.com that Sharks were merely lucky to win, as his side put up a good performance but did not take their chances.
.
"This was a very highly contested game in which the two sides exhibited high soccer artistry, and the luckier side won," he said.
.
"We had a good number of chances for an away side, but unfortunately we wasted all of them.
.
"We have to go back to the drawing board to make amends for our subsequent matches.
.
"Sharks were luckier than us since they were able to score one of the opportunities they created, and the timing of the goal could not have been better for them."
.
Both teams did squander quite a number of opportunities in an entertaining and lively game that saw Lobi Stars take the game to their hosts.
.
Lobi Stars, with captain Moses Orkuma very influential in the middle, came close to scoring twice in one-on-one situations in the first half, with Sharks goalkeeper Danladi Issah bravely saving his side on both occasions.
.
Lobi Stars still held their own in the second half, but it was Sharks that created more chances. However, Lobi Stars goalkeeper Terkaa Melai pulled off a string of breathtaking saves to keep his side in the game.
.
Sharks should have taken the lead on 80 minutes, but Odinga headed agonisingly wide from less than six yards.
.
The veteran wing-back made up for his mistake five minutes later, when he scored from close range after Fabiyi headed a corner kick into his path.
.
Sharks are now 11th in the premier league with 36 points, while Lobi Stars are bottom of the log with 32 points after 26 rounds of matches.
