Ahead of the November 16, Anambra State governorship election, the camp of Chief Godwin Ezeemo, a key contender for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket has disowned the endorsement of Dr Chris Ngige as the flag-bearer of the party by some chieftains of the party.
The Ezeemo Campaign Organisation described the selection of Ngige as the APC candidate and the purported withdrawal of their principal from the race as unfounded and misleading.
Addressing journalists on the issue of Ngige's endorsement as the candidate of the APC, yesterday, the Director General of Ezeemo Campain Organisation, Barrister Clems Chigbata, said that there was no truth in the entire story, more so, when the party's leadership has assured them that there will be a primary for all the aspirants.
Chigbata, who stated that Ezeemo has not stepped down for anybody, contended that the news that Ngige has gotten the ticket is false.
"The rumour that Ngige has gotten the ticket is not true. We wish to tell our supporters to remain steadfast and have confidence that Ezeemo is still very much involved in the race," he stressed.
Chigbata said that as the APC is a party that cherishes internal democracy, they are very hopeful that the party's leadership could not anoint any one.
It would be recalled that some chieftains of the APC, including its interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, Senator Annie Okonkwo and others had at the end of their meeting in Abuja on Wednesday raised the hands of Senator Ngige and announced that he is now the candidate of the APC in the election following the alleged withdrawal of Okonkwo from the race.
