SV Hamburg defender Marcell Jansen is unavailable for his side's Bundesliga visit to Hertha Berlin on Saturday after fracturing a toe in the 5-1 home defeat to Hoffenheim, coach Thorsten Fink said on Thursday.

Jansen had been hoping to play despite the diagnosis, but Fink told reporters: "The doctors have said he won't make it this week."

The Germany international hopes to resume training next week. Jansen's absence could give Hamburg- born 22-year-old Lam Zhi Gin an opportunity in the left-back position.

Fink will be without defender Dennis Aogo who along with midfielder Tomas Rincon has been dropped from the squad for the match.

The suspension was a disciplinary measure by Fink after the players used two free days following Saturday's Hoffenheim defeat to fly to Majorca. Hamburg began the season with a 3-3 draw at Schalke before the heavy defeat to Hoffenheim.

"The team has quality and shown (in the past) that it can deal with setbacks. A victory is possible," Fink said.
