Role Overview: – The Communications Officer will play a key and strategic role in the Communications Unit.  – S/he will actively support the Communications Manager in all components of the Communications output.  – This role will involve strategic support to effectively deliver the various communications activities across the entire communications work stream.

Responsibilities:

•   Media Relations – Work to build and sustain a close relationship with key media organizations across the key V4C states. The CO will ensure a comprehensive and regularly updated database of media allies and will be innovative in nurturing a positive and collaborative relationship with such media organisations. – Ensure V4C mass media outputs are aired in line with agreed protocols and agreements – Support periodic trainings of Journalist and Media producers – Provide periodic feedback on the reach and popularity of Media organizations

•   Coordination and Quality Assurance – Work with the Communications Manager to ensure that agencies contracted to produce media content are adhering to agreed schedules and timelines. The CO will also ensure that the quality of the media outputs are of high quality and such quality must be consistent across all media outputs. – Ensure consistency of messages across all Communications Outputs – Support linkages and partnerships with partner organizations in developing Communication outputs

•   Research – With Support from the Communications Manager lead the process of periodic audience research to ensure that Communication outputs are responding to prevailing environment realities. – Use research data and information to inform programmatic directions and decision making; – Review research and media reports to inform programmatic directions and decision making;

•   Campaign Planning – Work closely with the Output 1 and 3 Technical Officer to plan and execute campaign events with V4C Campus brand ambassadors. – With support from the Communications Manager, explore innovative ways of promoting the V4C brand through specific issue based campaign events.

•   Program Support and Planning – Support the Communications Manager to develop quarterly and annual work plans – Contribute to all required reporting timelines by writing sections of the Communications Quarterly and Annual reports. – Identify and recommend innovative Communications approaches according to changing priority areas and other conditions – Collaborate and liaise with e key stakeholders to exchange best Communications practices – Perform other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements:

•   This position requires flexibility to travel within South and Northern Nigeria.

•   Demonstrated experience in implementing behavior change communication/ Marketing Communications Campaigns

•   Experience with issues based campaigns and issue promotion

•   Good understanding of the Media and Communications Industry in Nigeria

•   Experience with Mass Media Content Production especially Radio and Outdoor advertising

•   A good understanding of DFID work planning and monitoring and reporting requirements

•   An appreciable understanding of the Social Cultural dynamics of Nigeria

•   Good problem solving and independent thinking skills

•   Strong organizational, leadership and management skills

•   Strong working relationships and interpersonal communication skills

•   Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Power point)

•   A graduate degree in communications, Marketing or social sciences

•   4  to 6 years' experience working in the field of either Marketing Communications, Behavior Change Communications or Advertising
