Steve Clarke is braced for the uneasy prospect of bringing Peter Odemwingie back into his first-team plans - as interested clubs struggle to match Albion's valuation for the striker.
.
Albion are still trying to bring in at least two offensive players before Monday's deadline, with Marseille's Morgan Amalfitano one of the targets.
.
However, the Odemwingie situation also needs resolving.
.
The Baggies have three offers on the table, from Cardiff and Stoke in the region of £2million, with a £1.8million bid from Swansea.
.
But they have been informed they will need to pay in the region of £4million, which makes a pre-deadline day sale unlikely unless the Baggies lower their expectations.
.
There were further talks between the clubs, which could yet see the matter resolved.
.
Odemwingie, aged 32, is out of contract next summer but Albion are wary that they would be selling a proven goalscorer to a Premier League rival.
.
The striker has trained on his own since returning to the club following the summer break.
.
He has not been named in any of Albion's squads so far.
.
Clarke now faces the awkward possibility of potentially having to reintegrate Odemwingie back into his squad if the player has not been sold by the end of play on Monday.
.
Clarke said: "There is supposed interest in Peter but I have been more concerned with trying to get players into the squad.
.
"I haven't given it (Odemwingie situation) much thought.
I feel West Brom should just let him go else they'll put him on the bench and still pay him for being part of the team!
