Three weeks after the dissolution of the local government caretaker committees in the 16 council areas of Ekiti State, the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Wednesday inaugurated the new caretaker Committee Chairmen that would continue to administer the affairs of the third tier of government in the state.

Fayemi has also directed all the Directors of Administration and Treasurers in the 16 council areas to proceeds on compulsory leave.

Fayemi, who returned some of the Chairmen that were dissolved on May 15 by the State Government, expressed displeasure at the poor performances of the dissolved council bosses in their six months in the saddle.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Fayemi warned the caretaker chairmen against corrupt practices, emphasizing that his government would not shield any of the officials from prosecution for any act of financial misappropriation committed.

He said he has set up monitoring mechanism to put the chairmen on their toes for effective performances and optimal utilization of the scarce resources to bring the desired results of  the people of the State.

But, in what appeared as  carrying out a minor shake up in his cabinet, Fayemi has appointed a serving commissioner for women Affairs and General Empowerment, Mrs Olufunke Owoseni, the Caretaker Chairman in Ikole Local Government.

Fayemi tasked the newly inaugurated council bosses to tar not less than five kilometers road in their respective localities within the next three months.

He urged them to place premium on youth empowerment and shun corrupt practices that could warrant poor performances   and continued suffering of the downtrodden masses.

Fayemi charged them to adhere strictly to the principles guiding the financial transactions as contained in the Local Government bye-laws for better developmental programmes at the Council level.
