Title: Crisis won’t weaken PDP –Orji
Post by: Mirror on Sep 04, 2013, 10:32 PM
Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has said that the raging crisis rocking the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not weaken the party.

Addressing journalists on arrival from Abuja where he had participated in the PDP Special National Convention, Orji said that the ruling party had demonstrated that it had the capacity to pull through whenever it was rocked by internal misunderstandings.

He said: "But the interesting thing is to have the ability and capacity to overcome it. We have trusted leaders in the party who can manage the problem. This is not the first time.

The party will overcome it." The governor also dismissed the insinuation that the opposition could capitalise on the crisis to wrest power from the party in 2015, saying: PDP is intact and will withstand any challenge from the opposition."

On the impact the PDP crisis could have on the continued existence of Nigeria as a corporate entity, Orji said prophets of doom would not have their way as a family misunderstanding in PDP would not snowball into national crisis that could threaten the nation's existence. Orji said: "Nigeria will not disintegrate. If Nigeria did not disintegrate during the civil war, it cannot disintegrate now.

"The problem we have in PDP cannot disintegrate Nigeria. The problem we have in PDP is the normal thing in politics, especially when campaigns are just by the corners. People will be looking for ways of achieving their aims politically, and you will expect this type of thing."

Orji, who refused to accept that PDP has been factionalised, faulted those impugning religious and ethnic dimensions to the crisis, saying that "it is purely political".

No matter how much they're confident that the crisis won't weaken the pary they should also try as much as possible to end the crisis!
