The Methodist Church of Nigeria has for the first time in its history elected the first Igbo man, Most Reverend Samuel Uche, who hails from Ihube, Okigwe, Imo State, as prelate of the church.
Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe, in his press briefing yesterday reportedly said the governor hoped that with patience, the grace of God would locate everybody.
He said the church has demonstrated exemplary leadership as processes that led to the eventual choice of the prelate may not have been devoid of challenges typical of humans.
However, the election was to be transparent and acceptable as other contestants have reportedly pledged their support to the new prelate as the task of governance was viewed to be easier when all stakeholders willingly made their choice and would participate in the principle of collective responsibility.
Orji also called on other clerics, especially those from the South- East to ensure the success of Most Rev. Uche, and to reinvigorate their energies to use the church as a strong instrument of ensuring world peace.
