Title: Togo Salvage Some Pride
Post by: Folami David on Sep 09, 2013, 10:31 AM
Togo salvaged some pride in their 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over DR Congo on Sunday.
.
Backer Aloenouvo scored two minutes into stoppage time as the West Africans claimed their first win of what was a disappointing Group I showing.
.
Togo came into this encounter knowing that they would finish last in the group after they picked just a single point from their first five matches of the qualifiers.
.
Cameroon had defeated Libya 1-0 earlier on in the day to make sure that they finish top of the group standings and qualify for the final phase of the CAF Zone World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014.
.
Lalawele Atakora gave the Togolese the lead in the first half but Saoule Ebunga threatened to spoil the party in Lome for the locals when he had netted a an equaliser late on.
.
However, there was to be more drama when, with virtually their last chance, the home side found the winning goal through Aloenouvo.
