[attachimg=1 align=left] United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Terence P. McCulley, joined the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Architect Namadi Sambo in launching the 2010 Nigeria Education Data Survey and Digest of Education Statistics (NEDS) in Abuja.
Conducted by Nigeria's National Population Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education with support from USAID and the UK's Department for International Development, the 2010 NEDS is a sample-based survey on educational and related household data from throughout Nigeria. The NEDS Survey provides verifiable, qualitative and quantitative data to help shape education strategies and inform decision-making.
The U.S. also supported Nigeria's first Education Data Survey in 2004. To be effective as a reference tool, the NEDS Survey should be conducted every five years.
In his message, Ambassador McCulley explained that, "the United States, as a friend and partner, is committed to working with the Government of Nigeria to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria's education system because we believe as you do, that this is the best way to build a sustainable, well-governed democracy, a diversified growing economy, and a healthy, educated population."
