Title: I Don't Have A Team For CHAN - Stephen Keshi
Post by: Folami David on Sep 10, 2013, 08:26 PM
Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi says he does not have a team for next year's Africa Cup of Nations for home-based players.
.
Keshi last Saturday led Nigeria to the third round/ play-off stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a 2-0 spanking of the Flames of Malawi but the former Nigeria captain still has an eye on the development regarding the championships in South Africa next January.
.
"But I want to declare now that I don't have a team for CHAN. Before I had a team but now I don't think I have a team that will do well. It is a bad situation because some of my players are going abroad.
.
"It is good to see my players progressing by getting lucrative contracts abroad. But these are also the home based squad I have been working with for the past two years. It means I have to start afresh and time is not there.
.
"Some of my key players are gone and may be more would go before the CHAN cup next year, leaving us with the option to build a new team in three months. It is not going to be easy you know',he stated.
.
Keshi said he would discuss with the NFF and see how he can combine the world cup programme with that of CHAN to get results.
.
Since Keshi started with the home boys in late 2011 not less than six of the boys have gone for better deals in Europe. Players like Uche Kalu, Oshaniwa Juwon, Godfrey Oboabona amongst others have left for deals in Europe.
