Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has reminded youths in the State that having raw talents not complemented with a sound education will take them nowhere in life. To this end, he has enjoined them to give academic pursuit the required attention while pursing their God-given talents.
Governor Amosun gave this admonition today in his office while receiving in audience members of the Uplift Under-15 Football team who came on a thank you visit after week long training in Udinese, Italy.
“Education is key, no matter your depth of talents; you need education alongside the football you are playing to do better in your career. It is the most important of all one can have on earth”, Governor Amosun remarked.
The Governor reassured that his administration will do its best to monitor their academic performance as they go on in life, urging them to be disciplined at all times.
”We will not allow your education to suffer. We will monitor your academic performance as you go on in life, you must be disciplined in all areas if you want to go far as having a right attitude with good talents brings acceptance in the society”, the Governor said.
Expressing satisfaction about the testimony of their trainers in Italy, the Governor said he was not surprised, noting that “anybody from Ogun must be well behaved” and that he was looking forward to seeing them play in Nigerian and foreign leagues.
He cited the likes of Segun Odegbami, John Fashanu, Muda Lawal, among other illustrious sons of the Gateway State, who with their attitudinal excellence and talents had done the nation proud on the pitch.
In her remarks, wife of the Governor and initiator of the Uplift Foundation, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun said the 22-man team taken to Italy aged between 13 and 15 was the best that emerged after series of local competitions, after being assessed by reputable footballers.
Mrs. Amosun attested to their good behaviour and exceptional performance on the pitch, revealing that some foreign clubs had indicated interest in them.
