The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has warned that he will not hesitate to sack any commissioner found to be corrupt.

Amaechi issued this warning shortly after swearing in six new commissioners on Friday in Port Harcourt.

The governor said that the state Fiscal Responsibility Law would be used against any public office holder in the state that was enmeshed in corrupt practices.

He urged the new commissioners to work hard to achieve the best for the people of the state, maintaining that a lot was expected from them as public officers.

He said, "I enjoin all of us today to know that we are holding the commonwealth of the Rivers people. Therefore, the target is high. But even if we cannot get to the target, if we get close to the target, we would have achieved what would be to the best interest of Rivers State.

"I am sure most of you are my friends and know my goals; you must key into the goals. If I'm not satisfied that you are at the same frequency with me, I will not hesitate to drop you."

Those sworn into the new State Executive Council are former Commissioner for Power, Mr. Augustine Wokocha; the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari; and the former Commissioner for Water Resources, Ms. Patricia Hart.

Others are ex-Education Commissioner, Mrs. Alice Lawrence-Nemi; a former Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Nyema Weli; and the former Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area, Chief Victor Giadom.
