Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has emphatically declared that he is not playing for the national team for money, saying it is always a thing of honour and pride wearing the national team colours anytime he is called upon to play, Complete Sports can report.

The Fernabahce of Turkey forward who was reacting to the $5,000 bonus paid the team after beating the Flames of Malawi in last Saturday's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, said his top priority is to play for Nigeria and make sure the team qualify for the mundial billed to hold in Brazil next year.

Emenike who was on target against Burkina Faso in Tuesday's international friendly game played in Kaduna just as he did against Malawi further said he was happy contributing to the progress of the team, while also revealing that missing the 2013 Africa Nations Cup final was painful.

"I don't know why there is problem with bonus; for me, I don't play for money. Nigeria is my country and I'm always happy playing for the country. The World Cup is coming and I want to play a key role in helping my nation to qualify. So I don't care about bonus or whatever it is called," says the Turkey-based striker.

The reliable forward is however looking forward to the final round of the qualifiers as the draw will be held in Cairo, Egypt, next Monday.
