As nine Ministers were dropped from the Federal Executive Council in a cabinet reshuffle recently by the Federal Government, some residents of Yola, the Adamawa State capital have appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to replace the removed Ministers with technocrats and not mere politicians who may not have the desire to develop the nation. They also called for timely replacement of the disengaged Ministers to allow for continuous smooth operations of the affected ministries. Expressing concern about the incident, Abdulhamid Mohammed commented that the Ministers were removed when their services were most needed. Adding, the former Minister of Education, Ruquyyatu Ahmed Rufai with her experience should have been retained to tackle the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike and other related problems affecting the education sector in the country. Abdulhamid Mohammed was also of the view that the environment and housing sectors needed people like the sacked Ministers, stressing that there is every need for the President to engage professionals in place of the dropped Ministers. Another respondent, Chinedu Emeka pointed that the removal of the Ministers would not be good for the development of the nation; saying those that would be appointed to replace them will have vast knowledge and understanding of the problems of the Ministries they would be appointed to take charge. Sa'adatu Bello in her reaction said that the removal of the Ministers would be a set back on the progress of the affected ministries in particular and the nation at large. She added that continuity is very important in development; stressing need for the appointment of more female Ministers into the Federal Executive Council. According to the respondents, all the affected nine key ministries require urgent attention in regards to the issue of housing, education and environment which are currently plaguing the nation.
