Former Enugu Rangers captain, Sylvanus Okpala has described the death of the club's long standing official, Segun Martins, as very sad and unfortunate.

Martins died at the Park Lane Hospital, Enugu at the weekend after eight days in the hospital over what officials of the Coal City Flying Antelopes decribed as kidney-related ailment.

Okpala who was a former Flying Eagles captain and member of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning Green Eagles who later played professional football in Portugal with Maritimo and Nacionale Unioa, said it was painful losing the likes of Martins who he said loved and devoted his time supporting the club and working for it.

"It's so sad, it's painful that Martins is dead. We'll miss him, the club will miss him too. He spent most of his life following and supporting Rangers, I knew him in the late 70's whenever we came to play in Lagos.

"By the turn of the 80's, 'SEUNJE' as he was popularly called in Enugu, became well known to me especially as I got closer to him during the Nations Cup. He was a classical case of what a true supporter of a club should be", Okpal who is called 'Quick Silver' said.
Death is very much sad at this kind of time so I don't blame the player for doing this. May the dead rest in perfect peace!
