Following up Monday's announcement of SteamOS (http://readwrite.com/2013/09/24/valve-steamos-vs-ouya-xbox-ps4-comparison%20target=), Valve today announced plans for a "new category of living-room hardware"—that is, gaming consoles that run SteamOS. Only without actually providing any actual details.

Valve's vague announcement (http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamMachines/) provided no information about what the products will be, what hardware specifications Valve has in mind or who its "multiple partners" might be. The company said it has designed a prototype game machine and is inviting 300 users as initial beta testers.
