World leaders under the aegis of the United Nations have vowed to amass the political will needed to end the HIV/AIDS scourge globally.
The declaration was made at the end of the United Nations High Level summit on the disease which ended last weekend in New York, Empowered Newswire reports.
A 17-page political declaration issued on Friday and unanimously adopted by most member-states of the UN General Assembly said in part, "We solemnly declare our commitment to end the epidemic with renewed political will and strong, accountable leadership."
The outcome document observed with concern that Sub-Saharan Africa remained the worst-affected region, where poverty is a major obstacle to lifelong treatment.
